Founder/ Series Creator/ Partner/ Dept. Coordinator/ Series Writer
Spencer LaFever grew up in the Washington D.C. suburbs, where he spent most of his time making creative things with his friends and family until a serious infection of his brain fluid derailed his life and education. After a lengthy recovery, Spencer moved to Southern California to complete a film degree at Orange Coast College where he met frequent collaborator Nicole Lu, the future Art Director of New Atlantis. After being admitted to study film at CSULB, Spencer met even more talented artists, writers, producers and filmmakers right as the global Covid-19 Pandemic started. Before graduating Spencer’s pitch was selected for the extracurricular CSULB writer’s room simulation, a skill building exercise that ends in a showcase where Spencer ran a writer’s room as Co-Executive Producer with Professor Adam Moore, the department chair as Executive Producer. The CSULB H3lp.Me writers room is where Spencer leaned on the skills of other future New Atlantis collaborators like Sharon Lee, Nichole Smith and Angelica Quiñonez. Budget constraints only got tougher on independent projects throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and from the conversations about ways to circumnavigate those limits, the New Atlantis Comic Collective was born.
Spencer’s work is inspired by the intersection where the human condition meets the human ability to overcome the impossible. Through engaging storytelling, he aims to change the way we see ourselves and our world.
